Specialized Booksellers When you are inventing a new life that is out of step with the present but in step with the future then sometimes your bookshelves are full of your most understanding friends and ablest instructors. Like-minded and knowledgeable people may not be located near you geographically but their thoughts and experiences can warm your days right from your own library. Below are just a few booksellers that offer materials that are off the beaten path.
Acres USA - Their note at the top of the page says it best, "Acres USA is the premier source of books on organic/sustainable farming and eco-living, each hand-selected by our editors. We don't sell books we don't want in our own personal library. Most are hard to find, some are only available here." This is an accurate assessment. Look through their offerings on-line. Receive their print catalog and be periodically inspired and intrigued Cobblemead Publications - Nathan Griffin is author of the very thoughtful and useful Husbandry - The Sure, Cheap Way to Plenty & Prosperity in the Country. He also sells a few other rare titles. The Fat of the Land and Our Farm of Four Acres, and the Money We Made By It (from 1859) are both wonderful and on our shelves here. We actually have all of his books except for the one about sheep as we have no sheep. Cumberland Books - Helpful Resources for Folks Pursuing the Good Life - This online bookstore based in Kentucky offers a very interesting array of books on agrarian thought and practice, homeschooling, culture and more. Authors represented range from Joel Salatin and Eliot Coleman to Neil Postman and C. S. Lewis. Lots of "must reads" available here and at good prices. Diamond Farm Book Publishers - A purveyor of titles related to agriculture and wildlife. There are books here we haven't seen anywhere else. Also don't miss the interesting titles in children's section. Granny's Country Store - An intense selection of books, videos CD's and more ranging across subjects such as green economics and green business, grass fed livestock, rural and urban homesteading, green living, wilderness survival, wildflowers and edibles, teaching children about nature and home building. Lulu - Lulu is a great place to go to self-publish your work and they have creators from over 80 different countries. So for whichever path from the many "off the beaten paths" you are pursuing, you may find books here to accompany you on that path. Each book is described and some have reviews from customers. Also, once you have gained interesting knowledge and perspective on your own path, you can write about it and get it published here to share with other fresh path seekers.
