Food

The majority of us rely on the current industrialized food system of massive agribusiness of growing and processing and shipping enormous amounts of food that we find at our local stores. This is an inefficient system and illustrated in Michael Pollan's An Omnivore's Dilemma. The food itself is extremely unhealthy contributing to our high rate of obesity and related health problems. Also the current food system depends largely on gasoline to ship the food to market. With the use of chemicals, poisons and genetically modified technology this system is fragile as it comes. Entropy is waiting to devour our current food system.

So as our food system is fragile and the food that is produced is unhealthy it is advisable to come up with an alternative way to obtain one's food. This section is divide up into two categories of Food Production and Food Storage.

Food Production: It is our belief that growing and producing as much of you own food as possible is the best method for a person on all levels.

  1. The work and energy one puts into growing and producing their own food in itself helps a person stay healthy in all ways.

  2. Your food is locally grown and fresh. Locally grown food, particularly food grow in you own home environment has in sense nature's blessings. Food in nature is always meant to be consumed locally as nature puts into food what the local inhabitants need.

  3. Producing you own food gives you a sense of well being and security as well as cultivating a relationship with nature.

  4. To some extent you can control what is in your food. Pollution and toxins are everywhere but you can at least control what you put in your soil and environment.

  5. Perhaps the most important factor for our family is that you can create the spiritual condition in your property. I worked as a waiter for years and can tell you ever restaurant I ever worked in the kitchen was a hostile and often abusive place. The cooks had to produce a lot of food quickly in a very hot environment. They were under pressure in temperatures usually in the 100%'s. They often were injured by sharp knives and burned by hot pots and pans. Many of the chef's themselves had abusive tendencies that would of course come out in this high stressed environment. Years later, after I began practicing the Sahaj Marg method of Raja Yoga I learned that everything gives off a vibration. We give off vibrations and those vibrations are in the atmosphere that surrounds us. Those vibrations in turn go into the food that we grow and cook. That food which also gives off a vibration goes into our system and becomes part of us. So we strive to create a loving and nurturing environment where we grow our food and cook our food so it is of the highest vibrational quality and the consume it in the thought of divine love.

So those our some of the reasons we feel it is best to grow as much of your food in your home environment. That is one of the reason we have chosen to have a homestead and now milk two cows. It is very time consuming producing your own food so it is important that you have a great deal
